Amélie regresa al Japón después de diecisiete años, la televisión francesa quiere filmar un documental sobre su infancia y juventud en este país. Dos personas llenan sus nostálgicas memorias de camino a su pasado, Nishio-san, su niñera en Kobe y Rinri Nakano, su ex novio en Tokio. Kobe ya no es la ciudad que ella recordaba, el terremoto se ha encargado en destruir casi todos sus recuerdos infantiles y para colmo su niñera está mas vieja y un poco senil. La Tokio de su juventud ha cambiado tanto como su ex, no hay pasión en el reencuentro, solo reposados recuerdos agradables. Ya nada es igual que antaño, todo lo magnificado en su memoria a sido reducido, borrado o añejado por la intemperie de los años. La euforia de los encuentros da paso al vacío y a la divagación como mecanismo de defensa para poder alcanzar la paz que da la nostalgia feliz.
Novela corta llena de sentimientos encontrados con una narrativa original que desemboca en una crónica de un viaje al pasado, a los recuerdos de su infancia feliz, al amor de la adolescencia y al reencuentro con fantasmas del pasado.
